Let Your Inner Polar Bear Out!

Get ready to get cold for a cause!

The Border City Connects Society (formally the Lloydminster Handivan) is pleased to present our 2nd annual outdoor “Polar Splash” which is our 1st ever “Celebrity Splash” and we would like to thank you all our Splashers from the bottoms of our hearts for helping us to financially support our daily operations so we are able to carry out our charities’ mission of transporting community members with mobility and other challenges within and outside our fine City.

You could be one of more than 25 invited participants that have (literally) stepped forward to jump into a tank of ice freezing water then out… and dip into a wonderful Beachcomber hot tub set up near the tank!

When: Saturday March 9, 10-1:30

Where: Lloydminster Civic Centre

in conjunction with the "Battle Of The Badges" hockey game

We would encourage participants to talk to your potential sponsors as soon as you can and inform them the online registration will be operating very soon.  If you can’t wait for the online version, the good news we do have available on our website a good old fashion sponsorship registration form that can be printed off and manually filled in keep track of your sponsors immediately.***

Fundraising Things To Know

Funds are generated for the Border City Connects Society by encouraging sponsorship from your family, friends, and co-workers.  It would be much appreciated if each participant set a goal to bring in a value of $500 or greater for the Splash.

For those that have the desire or competitive spirit there is an incentive for the Splasher that raises the highest amount of individual funds.

Not only will they receive the bragging rights of raising highest dollar amount you will be the first winner of “Lloydminster Co-op Cup”

They will also be entitled to a Multi Course dinner for 8 this spring at an undisclosed location.

Another prize up for grabs is available by wearing a costume. Costumes are encouraged but not necessary, however  for the “Best Costume” there will be 4 guests also invited to the amazing dinner.

Let's See the Mayor's Polar Bear!

Do you want to see Lloydminster Mayor Gerald Aalbers, hit the freezing water?

Mayor Aalbers has challenged the citizens of Lloydminster to raise at least $15,000 for the Border City Connects Society and If we do, he will once again do the splash!

Donations over $25 will receive a tax receipt.

Where can I drop off my pledge form and donations after the event?

You can drop off your pledge forms and donations at McCaw's Funeral Service 5101 50 St, Lloydminster, AB T9V 0M2.

What do I need to bring to the event?

You'll need to bring your pledge and waiver forms to participate. If you have collected any pledge donations, you can bring them as well.

Splashers will need to be wearing soft soled, clean shoes to take a plunge (no high heels or bare feet). Change of clothes, towels and a warm ride home is recommended. Please download Participant Tips for a full list of things you might need.

How can I get pledges?

Let your family, friends and co-workers know you are participating and that you'd appreciate their help. It's the kind of event that once they find out what you'll be doing, they will want to see you get Splashed!

You could also team up with your co-workers or employees and create a "Boss Challenge". If everyone raises  a specified amount ($100 minimum per Splasher), then the Boss has to Splash!

I don't know anyone who is Splashing, but would still like to donate. How can I do that?

We have a donation page for you to donate online through PayPal, just scroll back to the top for our main ‘donation’ button and choose ‘general donation’ from the dropdown options of who to support.
